The Patricia Leahy Fellowship for Educators

This prestigious fellowship honors exceptional Model UN faculty advisors with professional development support and a generous cash stipend. Named for Patricia Leahy, beloved Model UN Advisor at Hinsdale South High School, this program recognizes educators who demonstrate outstanding commitment to Model UN education.

A Different Approach to Model UN

CIMUN delivers a simulation-based educational experience focused on realistic diplomatic scenarios. We prioritize national interest representation over idealistic consensus-building, challenging delegates to navigate complex international issues as real diplomats would.

Mission

Founded in 2003, CIMUN has developed simulation-driven Model UN programs in Chicago and Mexico City. Our mission is straightforward: create realistic diplomatic simulations that develop critical thinking, strategic negotiation, and leadership skills in high school students.

Realism

CIMUN evaluates delegates on:

• Accurate representation of national positions

• Strategic advancement of national interests

• Effective negotiation within policy constraints

Unlike other conferences, we don't reward delegates for compromising core national interests simply to pass resolutions. Success at CIMUN requires understanding both your country's position and the international system's realities.

Fully-Integrated Crisis Simulation

All CIMUN committees operate within a single, comprehensive simulation where:

• Actions in one committee affect all others in “running time,” a temporal construct only used at CIMUN

• Delegates from the same country must coordinate across committees

• Crisis developments require rapid adaptation and response

This integration spans General Assembly committees, specialized agencies, regional bodies, and national cabinets—creating one of the world's most comprehensive Model UN simulations.

Technology Integration

Key innovations at CIMUN include:

• CIMUN News Network: Live video broadcasts and articles that shape the simulation - see past CNN broadcasts on our Youtube Channel here

• SkyNet - Faculty Portal for self service delegation management and billing

• “Black” and “White” Position Papers

• Real-time crisis updates delivered to committees

These tools create a media-rich environment that reflects modern international relations and keeps delegates continuously engaged.
