While You're Here...

Chicago is the home of many of the world's great tourist and cultural sites, all conveniently accessible during your stay at the Fairmont Hotel Chicago for CIMUN. Famous for food, music, history, and shopping, be sure to make the most of your time here in downtown Chicago!
While in Chicago, you have an opportunity to visit many art museums that rank amongst the greatest in the world: the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and many other cultural and historic museums. The Museum campus is home to the famous Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and Museum of Science and Industry. See the collections of our excellent libraries including the downtown location of the Chicago Public Library and the Newberry Library in River North.
As Chicago is the city of neighborhoods, we encourage you to take the opportunity to visit many of the 60 areas, each with their own unique flavor. Visit Chinatown, Pilsen, Humboldt Park, Wicker Park, Uptown, UIC, DePaul, Hyde Park, Albany Park and Lincoln Park. Each neighborhood has a unique flavor (literally and figuratively!)-Be sure to ask our local staffers for recommendations!
A definite “can’t miss” in Chicago are our views! The 94th floor observatory of the John Hancock Center, over 1,000 feet above Chicago, features an open-air Skywalk: the highest in all of the Midwest. The Willis Tower Skydeck also offers free “touch and tell” computers that give detailed Chicago landmark history in 6 languages, just in case you can’t make it to all of them!
Even though it’s cold outside, Chicago’s Magnificent Mile is definitely a hotspot for out-of-town guests, or even those who live in Chicago. One of Chicago’s most well known (and most filmed) locations; it will be all decked out for the holidays. Be sure to experience the best shopping (460 and counting stores), dining and people watching. Stop in the Water Tower Place or 900 North Michigan for some pre-holiday perusal, or stop on Michigan Ave. for a hot chocolate to warm up-Ghirardelli is a convenient and famous stop.
During the conference, the USG of Administration will be available to faculty and students alike for all your service needs. If you have any particular requests, let us know, and we'll do our best to provide. Any preconference questions can be directed to Katie Duthaler, at usga@cimun.org.
