Dear Visitor,

It is our distinct pleasure to the sixth annual Chicago International Model United Nations, to be held December 10-13, 2009, a program of the Model United Nations Development Organization (MUNDO). MUNDO has been involved in international relations curriculum development and the expansion of alternative style Model United Nations programs since 2003. This alternative archetype brings a unique blend of diplomacy and politics that we believe remains unmatched among our contemporaries.

The present day simulation will reflect the new international dynamic the world faces after a number of recent political turnovers in various nations, as well as an eye on the human rights lessons learned in the recent past. In our featured historical simulation, delegates will face the complex issues of 1980, with tension in the Middle East, an intransigent war in Indochina, and questions of self-determination facing Africa. Delegates to our specialty cabinet committees will be challenged to move beyond their usual roles as diplomats, and get involved in the political considerations and interpersonal “nitty-gritty” faced by policy makers.
