Delegate Prep Info by Committee Type

Given CIMUN’s unconventional approach to simulations development, pre-conference preparation and “positions papers” take on a different character. We feel this is the delegates’ opportunity to editorialize on the given topics from their member state’s perspective. There are 3 types of pre-conference preparation.

General Committees – General Assembly, Historical General Assembly, World Trade Organization, Org. of Petroleum Exporting Countries

Each delegation of these committees is required to write a 2.5 to 3 page white paper on the topics outlined in this guide. These white papers are your delegation’s public statement to the rest of the committee regarding the topics at hand. An optional black paper can be written to outline internal strategies and policy goals. Only members of your delegation and the Simulations staff make white papers public to all delegations, while black papers are viewable. For more information, please see the page on "Position Papers" before submitting your “white papers” and “black papers.”

Security Council & Historical Security Council

Security Council delegations are often more veteran delegates, or have more academic experience or ability in International Relations. Also, the Security Councils at CIMUN are not restricted to a particular topic and may place any item on the agenda within the council’s purview. Thus, White Papers (and Black Papers for that matter) submitted by Security Council delegates may cover any topic or combination of topics the delegate feels are important to their member state. While the same minimum of 2.5 to 3 pages is required, we encourage Security Council delegates to take this opportunity to provide their country’s perspective on any variety of world issues they find relevant.

Special Committees – Cabinets and the International Press Delegates

CIMUN Special Committees are unique portions of the simulation tailored to provide specific input into the larger simulation and develop a hands on understanding of elements of policy making in the case of the Cabinets or journalism in the case of the IPD. Pre-conference preparation for these committees is done via forum discussion, with each delegate asked to provide minimum commentary of one paragraph per forum post. In addition, a conference call will be held with each of these groups, coordinated by their staff, 7-10 days before the conference. While delegates to these committees receive correspondence from staff, the main contact info for each is provided below for your convenience.
