Intro to CIMUN Net for Delegates

CIMUN Net is a private social network for delegates to communicate with each other before and during the conference. Delegates can create an account and input their delegation information to immediately gain access to the Delegate Forums, view limited user profiles, make friends to see complete profiles, and send private messages to one another.

Most conferences do not allow students to communicate with each other before the conference. CIMUN encourages it. This limited social network is meant to empower delegate communication and strategic planning for the conference. Discussion of specific topic areas and ideas are encouraged, though the actual prewriting of resolutions is strictly prohibited.

Benefits and Features of CIMUN Net:

Creating an account is not required of CIMUN delegates. However, there are many benefits to joining the website.

Many delegates believe that it is important to be secretive about their position, and not to give away too many ideas before the conference. In practice, the sharing of ideas and the early development of strong voting blocs can indispensible to creating an advantage leading up to the conference. Leveraging each others' ideas can maximize returns to intellectual capital spent, and yields enhanced outcomes. Furthermore, the organizational aspects of delegation management can be improved with this resouce. Key features of CIMUN Net, include:

  1. Post to the Forums - Use the forums to discuss the topics, strategy, etc. before the conference. A nice way to get started is a very general post, like: "hey guys, what do you think about irrigation in Sub-Saharan Africa!?" Meet your fellow delegates and talk about Model UN in general. What are the diferences between the conferences?

  2. Share Profiles and Make Friends - All the profiles created by delegates are private to other delegates (except for their country and committee), but can be made viewable by becoming friends with others. The social aspect of Model UN cannot be denied.

  3. Send Private Messages to your fellow delegates on CIMUN Net.

  4. Edit your White and Black Papers - If you create an account and are logged in when you post your White and Black Paper, you will be able to edit it at anytime before the until the start of business hours on Monday Dec 7, 2009.

  5. Awards - CIMUN Committees and Simulation staff will be viewing online discussions as one aspect of award selection.

The Future of CIMUN Net:

This is the first year that CIMUN Net has been seriously attempted. This year, the website was completely built from the ground up by in-house CIMUN web developers. Unfortunately, we have been unable to implement all the features that we would have wanted. The next-generation will have:

  1. Private groups and other management tools for each country delegation
  2. Increased interconnectivity between delegates
  3. And more!
